What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?
Counselling and Psychotherapy is about exploring your own thoughts and feelings, encouraging you to discover your inner world with guidance and self-compassion. Counselling is a type of talk therapy or psychological therapy that explores influences which can shape present distress – childhood experiences, family relationships, grief, loss and trauma, to name just a few.
What can counselling do for me?
Counselling can be a great relief in which to share your worries and fears with someone who acknowledges your feelings and can help you reach a positive solution. Counselling will help you to discover new ways of coping, making changes and developing new skills and finding what works for you. The main aim of a counsellor is to help you work through various issues so that you can cope with your problems better.
How often do I need to attend counselling sessions?
Counselling sessions are usually once a week, and are 50 minutes in duration. They can last anywhere from 6-10 sessions or even more depending on issues being dealt with, it will take time, determination and commitment to therapy to take control of your own life once more and reach your goal. Some people will seek therapy with a very specific problem they need to solve and might find that one or two sessions is sufficient.
